Pretty Pretty Princess

Pretty Pretty Princess, Glitz, Glam and Glitter | The KIna's BlogAlthough both CK and I have been wearing quite a bit of black, every so often I can’t help but go back to my Pretty Pretty Princess board and admire images filled with soft colors, pretty flowers and lots of glitz. There’s something about soft pastels, baby’s breathe and sparkle that make you feel like you’re about to step into The Plaza for a spot of tea. And, if I were going to The Plaza for tea I would wear a fancy schmancy pink chiffon get-up like the one in this photo.

Side note, besides an annoying cough I’m (BK) finally starting to feel like a real human again. One that actually wants to shower and go outside. Man oh man, being sick for more than a week is a major bummer. I feel so out of it.

Hers and Mine | The Stripes

Pink Striped Dress (old Forever 21) | DIY Forever 21 Vest | H&M Cobalt Blue Heels (similar)

I loved the classic striped look Samantha wore on her blog Could I Have That I decided to re-interpret it in a different way. She opted for a neutral dress, shoes and belt and added a pop of hot pink color on her lips and nails, while I opted for a hot pink dress, blue heels and a neutral vest. So, it was kind of an opposite day hers and mine. I know we’re heading into the last weeks of our Indian Summer, so I wanted to rock my bright pink for as long as I can!

My First Love…The Shoes

I’ve come to the realization that more often than not personal style is a complete reflection of my internal emotions. Whether I’m consciously covering up a certain body part or sub-consciously searching for an article of clothing to make me feel happy, I can’t help but deny that what I’m wearing is a reflection of my heart and soul.

I feel like this connection between my style and emotions explains my roller coaster of purchases this entire year. I’ve constantly been on the search for something to make me feel happier, and by trying to attain a new sense of happiness I’ve been pouring through articles of clothing and accessories rampantly. I do not even want to try and add up how much I’ve spent this past year on things that I should not have purchased, because I know it would send me into cardiac arrest. But judging by the closet busting at the seams, it is a hefty sum. So I’m making a conscious decision to go back to my roots because I have a feeling that deciding to make this change will help me both internally and externally, and I have a feeling my bank account will thank me.

This last week when deciding what to wear I went back to my first love shoes of course! I think one of the first posts on the blog was about my love affair with these lovelies that cover our feet. When I met up with Miss Sara B to take some pictures, I made it a point to pair outfits with shoes that just make me smile.

How To Make Neon Nail Polish Pop

Happy Mani Monday everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I’m so glad I’m finally feeling 100% again and was able to make it out and have some fun on Saturday with CK at the Santa Ana Art Walk. I totally recommend this art walk if you’re in the Orange County area. There are so many cute restaurants and galleries to peruse in Downtown Santa Ana, and the large crowds and pretty lights make for an amazing Saturday evening. It’s held the first Saturday of every month, so make sure you head over next month!

Okay, so now back to the Mani Monday post. So, I love me a good neon polish and I started to notice that some of my polishes didn’t look as bright on my nails as they do in the bottle…major bummer. I took to the internets to figure out why this was and realized what I was missing from my application…two coats of white polish! I couldn’t believe it, I mean how have I not already been applying this simple tip to my polish application. So, I knew that this was a tip I must share with all of you lovelies.

How to Make Your Neon Nail Polish Pop

Step 1: Apply a basecoat (I use Essie’s Protein Base Coat)
Step 2: Apply two coats of white nail polish
Step 3: Apply two coats of your favorite neon polish (I used Essie’s Pink Parka, but Miami Nice is great as well)
Step 4: Apply a coat of a high gloss top coat, let dry and you’re set! (I use Essie To Dry For)

Hope this helps you all get some even brighter Neon Digits! If you’re looking for some more  digit inspiration, check out my board on Pinterest!

The Cream Event

Last week I attended The Cream event, a carefully curated wedding event hosted by Bash, Please. I’ve never been to an event quite like this one, the girls of Bash, Please designed the event to make you feel as if you were attending a wedding reception. From the decor, food and DJ, it was a dream reception for any boho bride to be!

Love. Well Styled. This was definitely the motto of the night. Beautiful bright colors, neons, sparkles and glitter reigned supreme throughout the venue. I attended the event with my mom and she had the best time sampling all of the tasty treats. They literally had everything and all of it was delicious, from gourmet shaved ice to pork belly sandwiches, there was something for everyone’s palette.

Everywhere you looked your eyes were met with the prettiest of designs, I was literally walking around thinking I wanted to wake up and see an inspired space like this every day. I wanted to share some of the photos I snapped during the party. Unfortunately, I didn’t do the best job at documenting what it was I was shooting… note to self, next time write it down or photograph their business card.

Anxiously Waiting For My Ride To The Airport

I had the best time in Las Vegas this past weekend with my dear friend Holly. I couldn’t have asked for a better trip, we shopped, saw the sights and most importantly, danced the night away.

Our first night kicked off with drinks with a high school friend a visit to Tryst at The Wynn. After a little dancing we made our way over to Surrender at the Encore where I channeled some Robyn and danced on my own, and as fate should have it we were lucky enough to see the Bingo Players. If you haven’t heard of the Bingo Players, make sure you check out their single Cry (Just A Little), it’s amazing! I was in heaven, Holly and I pushed through to the front of the room and fist pumped into the wee hours of the morning.

On Sunday we played tourists and headed over to The Cosmopolitan, Bellagio and Caesars Palace. If I could pick a Las Vegas hotel to call my home it would hands down be The Cosmopolitan! This hotel is the chicest on all of the strip, from the beautiful crystals at the Chandelier Bar to the spectacular check in desks, their attention to detail is spectacular. Luckily, Holly’s friends were in town and we were able join them at their table and dance the night away at The Bank.

DIY Valentine’s Day Nails

Happy Valentine’s Day Lovelies! This is a super easy DIY Valentine’s day mani I made up over the weekend, that literally takes less than 15 minutes to create. I was so inspired by Glitter and Grace’s Kate Spade polka dot mani, I had to create a polka dot version of my own! Hope you all have a lovely day filled with love, laughter, pink and hearts!

Step 1 – Gather the Goods

Make sure you have everything you need in one place since you’ll be working with more than one open polish bottle. Here is what I used:

Essie Protein Base Coat
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in White On
OPI Nail Lacquer in Bubble Bath
Essie Polish in Pink Parka
Sephora by OPI Topcoat in Gold for Me
Seche Vite Dry Fast Topcoat
Pointed Q-Tips
Toothpicks

Step 2 – The Art of Application

First, apply your base coat.

Second, apply your polishes. I recommend starting with your left hand and coating each nail with one coat of polish, and then moving on to your right hand. Next, come back and apply a second coat of polish from left to right. Make sure you don’t apply too many coats because you’ve still got your polka dots and glitter to add on.

Step 3 – Polka Dotting & Glitter

Go ahead and apply the coat of glitter to your ring finger. After you’re done, you’ll want to grab a magazine, or any type of disposable surface that is slick and glossy like a magazine cover. Then you’ll need to dollop a few drops of each color being used for polka dots onto the glossy surface. Next, grab your toothpick and dip the tip into the polish pile. Make sure you cover the entire tip of the toothpick to ensure a nice full polka dot. Hold the toothpick over your nail and press down softly and voila, you have your first polka dot.

I went for a variation of polka dots on four of my fingers and I recommend you do the same thing. Go with whatever your heart fancies, it’s Valentine’s Day after all!

Step 4 – The Finale

Make sure you use a good fast drying top coat. You don’t want your topcoat to mix any of the colors, but you don’t want to wait too long to apply it either, as you want to make sure the colors are sealed in well.

This was my first stab at nail art, and I must say I am so excited for this polish to chip, so I can try my next made up design. I’d like to try mastering the art of stripes, hearts and flowers soon! Next time I’ll make sure to take some pictures as I’m painting so you all get a more detailed peek at the entire process.

Happy Valentines Day!

Love, Peace & Style
