Courage + Solitude

The past few weekends have been jam packed with trips, a baby shower and birthday celebrations, so I was quite pleased to have absolutely no plans this past weekend. Sometimes I just like to be by myself and reflect. I lounged around on Saturday, went shopping for 5 hours (for me this is therapeutic) and read by the pool for a few hours on Sunday. I ended the weekend by seeing a movie with the BF, we saw Pitch Perfect and let me just tell you, funniest movie I’ve seen in a while. Even the BF was laughing hysterically!

On the topic of reflection, I came across this image last week on Pinterest and cannot stop looking at it. The solitude and courage the image depicts really resonated with me. I spent a bulk of my time thinking about where I am now and where I would like to be. Setting life goals for myself of where I’d physically and emotionally like to be has always worked for me, because the two always seem to work hand in hand. If the energy is no good, you can’t expect to be thriving in your career, and to me you have to have courage to face your emotions head on and break through what is stopping you from reaching your dreams. For me, sitting in the peace of me, myself and I is always the best way to force myself to get real and be honest, and figure out what is standing in my way. I feel like I did that this weekend, and now as the season finally starts to change, I am ready to change as well.

Oscar de la Renta

The Oscar de la Renta show manages to take my breath away each and every season. I don’t know when it started, but ever since I can remember caring about fashion, Mr. de la Renta has always remained my numero uno each and every fashion week. Maybe it’s the spanish name, our Peruvian household is also big on Carolina Herrrera, or maybe it’s the gown SJP so elegantly donned on Sex and The City; whatever it is I wait with bated breath for his designs to saunter down the runway with the anticipation and excitement of Christmas morning.

I tried to edit my favorites down and 12 top looks is as low as I could go. I’d love to hear what your favorite Oscar looks were, it’s always so fun to hear everyone’s perspective on a collection. My favorite looks were of course filled with black, white and bright colors. The black and white striped gown was everything, and when I realized there where pockets I just about went into cardiac arrest. Another one of my favorite moments was when the hot pink jumpsuit came sauntering down the runway only to be followed by none other than a pretty in pink peplum! I mean Mr. de la Renta how do you do it, it’s like magic!

My Girl Wants To Party All The Time…In Dsquared2

So, do y’all remember that Eddie Murphy song, Party All The Time? It goes a little something like this – my girl wants to party all the time, party all the time, party all the time… Yeah, pretty sure all you 80s babies recognize this little gem of a jingle. Well, that’s all that was going through my head as I scrolled through the Dsquared2 Milan Fashion Week collection. And, in my mind all I was envisioning was me, with big hair, alone, in all these fabulous fancy outfits and jewels, busting a move in the middle of an open white loft in Manhattan. Yes, I often have fancy daydreams and they get me super excited, to the point where I feel like I’m there at that very moment. This daydream moved me so much I had to change the post for today from my usual day and night fashion week round-up to a dedicated Dsquared2 post. I hope y’all enjoy this rendition of my favorites and play some Eddie Murphy Party All The Time as you read through!

NYFW. There have been so many amazing designers and looks walking the runway this past week – my NYFW Pinterest board is working overtime. I wanted to include every look that managed to take my breath away, but quickly realized I’d need to compromise and selected ten shows to share. Each show had such a great mix of looks, so I decided to include a day and night look for each designer. Hope you enjoy these pics and the rest of fashion week! Wish I was there soaking it all up in person, but until that day comes I’ll continue to enjoy sifting through photos

Valentine’s Day Red

Forever 21 Necklace // Madewell White Button Up // Zara Skirt // Steve Madden Booties  Vintage Purse // Michael Kors Watch // Forever 21 Bracelet // Macy’s Ring

Happy Valentine’s Day! Two posts in one day, that’s a record for me! Today turned out to be quite a nice day, the drizzles and overcast sky’s from yesterday cleared out, and the sunshine of St. Valentine shone through. I love wearing brights, but for some reason don’t get out the red as much as I should. This particular skirt I found at Zara, on sale, for the outrageous price of $29.99! The color, material and cut are perfect for wearing year round!

DIY Valentine’s Day Nails

Happy Valentine’s Day Lovelies! This is a super easy DIY Valentine’s day mani I made up over the weekend, that literally takes less than 15 minutes to create. I was so inspired by Glitter and Grace’s Kate Spade polka dot mani, I had to create a polka dot version of my own! Hope you all have a lovely day filled with love, laughter, pink and hearts!

Step 1 – Gather the Goods

Make sure you have everything you need in one place since you’ll be working with more than one open polish bottle. Here is what I used:

Essie Protein Base Coat
Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in White On
OPI Nail Lacquer in Bubble Bath
Essie Polish in Pink Parka
Sephora by OPI Topcoat in Gold for Me
Seche Vite Dry Fast Topcoat
Pointed Q-Tips

Step 2 – The Art of Application

First, apply your base coat.

Second, apply your polishes. I recommend starting with your left hand and coating each nail with one coat of polish, and then moving on to your right hand. Next, come back and apply a second coat of polish from left to right. Make sure you don’t apply too many coats because you’ve still got your polka dots and glitter to add on.

Step 3 – Polka Dotting & Glitter

Go ahead and apply the coat of glitter to your ring finger. After you’re done, you’ll want to grab a magazine, or any type of disposable surface that is slick and glossy like a magazine cover. Then you’ll need to dollop a few drops of each color being used for polka dots onto the glossy surface. Next, grab your toothpick and dip the tip into the polish pile. Make sure you cover the entire tip of the toothpick to ensure a nice full polka dot. Hold the toothpick over your nail and press down softly and voila, you have your first polka dot.

I went for a variation of polka dots on four of my fingers and I recommend you do the same thing. Go with whatever your heart fancies, it’s Valentine’s Day after all!

Step 4 – The Finale

Make sure you use a good fast drying top coat. You don’t want your topcoat to mix any of the colors, but you don’t want to wait too long to apply it either, as you want to make sure the colors are sealed in well.

This was my first stab at nail art, and I must say I am so excited for this polish to chip, so I can try my next made up design. I’d like to try mastering the art of stripes, hearts and flowers soon! Next time I’ll make sure to take some pictures as I’m painting so you all get a more detailed peek at the entire process.

Happy Valentines Day!

Big hair and big beats in just two weeks! My friend Holly and I will be jetting off to Las Vegas in a little over two weeks, and we can’t wait – we’ve been itching to go for half a year now! Like any girl, one of my favorite things about a trip to Vegas is the fun I have with my friends while we are getting ready for a night on the town.

Searching for the perfect dress to wear is big part of building up the anticipation, so lucky for me ASOS is having a fantastic sale right now. They have an insane number of Las Vegas worthy dresses on sale and some of them are priced as low as $20! I’ve found so many fabulous looks I had to start a whole new board on Pinterest titled Sin City. I’ve been gravitating towards black, white, glitz, red and color blocked dresses, so I decided to share my favorite looks in this post. You’ll have to stay tuned to see what dresses I end up wearing!
