I could eat sushi every single day of my life and not get sick of it. And sometimes when I just want some good old spicy tuna but either don’t want to spend money on take-out or go out to dinner, I’ll pop on over to the local Japanese market and pick up some tuna. If I’m lucky I’ll even run into fresh enough tuna at Costco which is always exciting!
Since I’m already feeling a tad lazy to begin with, the recipe is super simplified not frou frouy at all. So if you’re looking for a recipe involving fanning rice and using bamboo rollers, that is one for another time. Yes my mom and grandma taught me how to make sushi the proper way, but sometimes I just want to speed through it and eat it!
Super Simple Spicy Tuna Recipe
2 cups of sushi rice
1 lb of raw sushi grade tuna
Strips of Nori
Measure 2 cups of sushi rice. Wash the rice and then cook in a rice cooker.
Chop the tuna up finely and place into a separate bowl. Mince a few strands of green onion and mix into the bowl of chopped tuna. Now you’re ready to mix together the spicy tuna sauce. Now, there are many different variations, but I like a super simple mixture of Sriracha and mayonnaise. I mix about 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise with about 2 1/2 tablespoons of sriracha. Taste it, because depending on how spicy you like things you may want more or less. Mix the sauce with the tuna, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until the rice has cooled. This will help the flavors meld together.
Once the rice has cooled place a little bit on a strip of seaweed, add a dollop of spicy tuna over the rice and voila, you’re ready to chow down. Hope this helps you soothe sushi cravings like it does for me and the BF!
