This past weekend I had the pleasure of unleashing my inner art monkey at my friend Roxy’s first ever Artshop. I can honestly say this is the best creative day I’ve had in a very, very long time. CK has always been a fan of painting, and now I totally understand what she’s been talking about. Painting was so incredibly therapeutic, I felt so calm and at peace. It sounds so cliche but it’s true!
Roxy was an amazing instructor and hostess! She set up her fabulous little Bungalow as an art studio and provided us all with some deliciously decorated treats – think frozen fruit sticks in mimosas. Now, I’m not going to lie at the beginning of the day I was not feeling very confident about painting on a canvas since this was something I’d never done, like ever! Roxy had us all rate how confident we felt at the beginning of the day and I felt like a 4 out of 10, but by the end of the day that jumped up to an 10. I’m telling you she’s an amazing teacher!
The Finished Canvas
We worked with acrylic paint and started out using our hands, then moved on to foam brushes, then worked with materials to stamp, and finally started to use traditional brushes. It was great working with so many different tools and types of paints. I’d have to say my favorite part was working with all of the colorful paints, I could’ve kept layering and mixing colors all day long!
I’ve known Roxy since our time as Gamma Phi Beta’s at UCLA, so I was thrilled to attend her very first workshop. Roxy was a wonderful instructor, I truly admire her abilities as an artist and instructor, and I’d totally recommend contacting Roxy if you’re looking to attend an art workshop, pick up some new artistic techniques or if you’re looking for a fun party activity to enjoy with your friends. I’ve felt so inspired since the workshop, I’ve already started working on another abstract piece! Check out her site, ByBun for more information.
